Pea Aphid is hated by farmers due to them attacking the legumes. Recently scientists discovered that these insects are more than just common pests. They gain carotinoids from fungi and use these carotinoids as a mean to gain energy from sunlight. They do so by making ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) that converts sunlight into energy for living creatures. By this method they can gain energy without eating any food at all.

Fireflies use Morse code to communicate with each other:-

Fireflies have been the continuous source of amazement for scientist due to their ability to generate light in their rear parts of bodies and the signals by which they turn these lights on and off. Recently scientists have come to a conclusion that fireflies use this blinking light as a mean of communication. They use sophisticated and timed patterns for finding the suitable mate.

Wasps are resistant to radiations:-

There is a misconception that cockroaches have more resistance to nuclear fallout when compared to other animals. This is only a false rumor but scientists recently discovered that a parasitic wasp species called Habrobracon are able to withstand radiation of 180,000 rads. In comparison humans can only withstand 1000 rads.

Dung Beetle can pull 1000 times their own body weight:-

The Dung Beetle as the name suggests eats the feces and also possess very aggressive nature when it comes to finding a suitable mate. With its simple body scientists have been amazed to know that in comparison to insects, Dung Beetle is the strongest of them all. An average Dung Beetle can pull 1141 times its own body weight. Tree crocodile or also more commonly know n as crocodile monitor is an inhabitant of New Guinea and prefers its living environment near the coastal areas. They are mainly black in color with specks of green, white and yellow colors. They can weigh up to 90 kg while being at a length of 5 meters.

Crocodile monitor suffers from hunting for its skin and meat. The skin is made into clothing and drumheads. Due to its aggressive nature it is quite perilous act to hunt this creature.

Water Monitor:-

Malayan Lizard or Water monitor inhabits the areas including Sunda Islands, Bay of Bengal, South area of China Sea and Sirilanka. Like many lizards of its class, Malayan lizard has an elongated body that has a huge neck and head as well as a heavy body with long tail. The adult water monitor can grow up to 9 feet in length.

These lizards are carnivorous by nature and thus rely on other lizards, small fishes, mammals, mollusks and even some birds for food sustenance. They have also been reported to dig and excavate human corpses and eat them for sustenance. They are hunted for their skin and toxin which is used for making clothing as well as for medicinal uses. Their primary attack is to bite their prey and inject them with a toxin that hinders the blood clotting resulting in death due to blood loss.

Due to plentiful food supply, these birds evolved into massive sizes.

One such mega bird fossil was recovered from Marimba Island and the bird was named as “pelagornithid” or simply the Bony Toothed Bird. This bird had a huge wingspan of 21 feet. Despite its huge wing span, this bird only must have had weighed about 30 to 35 kilograms making its flight easier and faster.

Turtle Shell Made For Digging:-

Scientists are now of the view that Turtle Shells which are fascinating evolution wonder, were once utilized by the creature for burrowing instead of protection. A fossil found of a prehistoric turtle revealed articulations in hands and feet and inside the ribbed shell. These broad ribs were not built for strength unlike the modern day turtle shells. This weak turtle shell fossil suggests that these sells were once used for burrowing and might have been the possible reason why turtles avoided the Permian Triassic Extinction.

Raptor with Wings:-

Scientist have already made clear that dinosaurs had wings but recently a fossil of raptor has been fund which reveals that it had been covered with feathers all over the body. This raptor was named as “Zhenyuanlong Suni’ and also the title for the largest feathered dinosaur discovered yet.

According to researchers this raptor resembled more to a bird than the ones we see in movies like Jurassic Park.  Only resemblance with movie raptors is the presence of a set of sickle claws and mouth with sharp teeth for shredding meat.

In an Illinois Mine back in 1958, researchers found a fossil of an animal that did not resemble any creature on earth. This 300 fossil had a toothed pincer in place of its nose. Researchers named the creature as “Tully Monster”.

The animal is supposedly land animal unable to swim in water. The fossil of this animal was found in Swiss Alps that further dismiss any notion of its aquatic nature.

Chilesaurus Diegosuarez:-

This animal is strongly resembled to the carnivorous T-Rex dinosaur but surprisingly his version is a vegetarian as it only consumed pants for food. Scientists are still bewildered by examining this dinosaur fossil as to what kind of evolution led to the evolution of such a dinosaur species.

This creature fossils show records of having two stumpy fingers like claws which were also sharp in nature. The animal despite its vegetative nature is supposedly a result of “Mosaic Convergent Evolution“Meaning forming parts like other animals of the same environment.

Tamisiocaris Borealis:-

This is a prehistoric creature which is actually a 2 meter tall shrimp that had weird feeding filters built on its mouth. The animal had supposedly lived I n waters of Greenland and fed like modern Blue Whale.

Evolution led to the being of this gentle predator who when swept for food exhausted lots of energy and hence needed huge amount of plankton to sustain itself.

Xenokeryx Amidala:-

This creature’s fossils show a bizarre looking prehistoric animal with three horns on its head. The creature might have lived in the Europe 15 million years ago.

Females of this specie did not have horns while males had horns above each eye and T shaped bone on the back of heads. They had enlarged canines which were only for displaying as this deer sized animal was an herbivore who fed on fruits, leaves and roots for sustenance. It closely resembles with today’s Giraffes and Okapi.

Turkey (Guinea Fowl):-

Nowadays the bird which we called turkey was known as Guinea Fowl in the past. This bird was a native of Africa and as introduced in Europe back in Ottoman Empire era which is today called Turkey. Europeans also originally called Guinea Fowls as Turkey Cock or Turkey Hens believing them to be originally from Turkey. Strangely enough even today it has many different names in different countries. Cheetah (Leopards) and Leopards (Pards):-

Cheetahs were called Leopards in the past as researchers though that they were a hybrid child of cross between lion and a leopard. Cheetah got its name from Hindi word originally pronounced as Chitraka which meant “Hunting Leopard” or a “tiger”.

Leopards in the past were simply called Pards which is derived from a Latin word meaning “male Panther”.

Killer Whale (Whale Killers):-

Killer Whale which is also nowadays called Orca is actually not whale instead it is a Dolphin. The bizarre thing is that they were formerly called “Whale Killers” by sailors in past who watched these huge aquatic animals hunting prey larger than their own size. In Spain they were once called “Ballena Asesina” meaning Assassin Whale.

Panda (Parti-Colored Bear):-

Pandas were once called Parti Colored Bears and the name was originally given to it in Nepal. The name Giant Panda was given to it in 1901. It has not been seen since September of 1920 and at that time the popular science magazine that published the picture named it “raccoon Bear”.

Giraffe (Camel leopard):-

Giraffes were formerly called Camel Leopard until the late 19th century. The name Camel Leopard was derived from Greek word “Kamelos Pardalis” meaning Camel Leopard. Greek named it so because of its resemblance to both camels and leopards. Some even thought it to be a hybrid offspring of Camel and Leopard. In 16th century it was also called “Arabic Zarafa”.

Warthogs and Mongooses:-

Scientists discovered a strange relationship between Warthogs and Mongoose in the Elizabeth National Park located in Uganda. They observed that when a warthog sees a mongoose they would lay down. After that mongoose will start grooming the skin hairs of warthog and also eat the ticks and insects off from its skin. At sometime one or more mongooses will clean the warthog from these insects and ticks and if need be they even crawl all over the body of Warthog.

Crocodile and Plover:-

Crocodiles of Africa after eating a prey will get to a nice cozy river bank and open their mouth wide open to signal the Plover. The plover then picks off tiny bits of food from the huge reptile’s teeth. This symbiotic relationship great benefits crocodiles as the plovers pick p food it prevents the infection from the raw food. On the plus side they also pick off insect that crawl over the body of crocodiles as well.

In addition to thorough dental cleaning, if plover while cleaning crocodile’s mouth senses any danger, it shrieks which signals crocodiles to dash back into water.

Colombian Lesserblack Tarantula and Dotted Humming Frog:-

One of the strangest and most bizarre symbiotic relationships has been observed in between Dotted Humming Frog and Colombian Lesserblack Tarantula. Both of these creatures are found in South America. Even if tarantula can attack and eat the small frog it chooses to protect it instead.

Tarantula shares its burrow with frog to provide it protection while frog eats the insects that can attack the spider’s eggs.

People and Honeyguides:-

One final symbiotic relationship is in between humans and an African bird called Greater Honeyguides. Local tribesmen of Tanzania call out o these birds with a distinct call and these birds then lead humans to honey. Humans call out these birds with various whistles, shouts or even with some spoken words. These birds re not trained in any way to help humans they after just hearing the distinct call will let the people know about the nearby beehive.  After getting the honey, people leave some honeycomb for birds to eat. Scientists believe that this particular relationship between humans and Honeyguides is possible millions of years old.

They are so quite in nature that some of their species have developed a habit of communicating by simply opening their mouths and not speaking word. Researchers with the help of a Bat Detector managed to pick up some communications in Ultrasonic Range with 70 Kilohertz power. Their audible range has been recorded up to levels of 91 KHz.

Nowadays there are many animals that we think are cute. However, this was always not the case, as some of these animals had ancestors which were terrifying in appearance and giants in size. These giant versions of today’s adorable animals were things right out of nightmares.

Wombats:-

Wombat is a native of Australia and is a small burrowing animal that is only 47 inches long and weighs only about 36 kg on average today. These small and adorable looking wombats had ancestors called Diprotodon which being the largest marsupial animal to eve roam the face of earth, were much larger in size that what their predecessors are today.

On average a Diprotodon would have measured 10 feet long, 5 feet 7 inches from shoulder to shoulder and would have had weighed about an amazing 2500 kg. In perspective of today, they were even more terrifying than today’s White Rhinos. Their pouches were o big that they could fit an entire human being. They were carnivorous by nature and preyed on their natural prey, a 20 feet lizard called Megalania.

Penguins:-

Penguins are one of the most popular animals in the world with about 15 to 17 different species. The smallest species is 10 to 12 inches tall whereas the largest is 3.7 feet tall. Large penguins usually thrive in cold temperatures like that of Arctic region whereas smaller species lives in more temperate regions like Australia and Galapagos.

Today, Emperor penguin might be the biggest penguin species but their ancestors, “The Water King” could stand tall in front of any human 36 million years ago. On average these penguins might have weighed about 82 kg while standing on average at a height of 5 feet. There fossils were discovered back in 2010 in Peru.

Kangaroos:-

Kangaroos are today a well known animal species and their particular species Red Kangaroo is quite well known as well. These kangaroos lived in harsh climates and depended upon tough fiber plants fro sustenance. Like today’s kangaroos they also had pouches to keep small babies inside.

Pigs:-

Pigs can be raised as house pets but when they are riled up they become feral. Tiny potbellies were even owned by many celebrities their pets. On the other hand domesticated hogs are dangerous as they can be reverted back to their feral nature in few months. They will start to grow tusks and get hairy with an extremely aggressive attitude. Pigs are omnivore meaning that they can eat nearly anything making them true survivors. Largest recorded wild boar was measured at 7 feet in length and 272 kg in eight.

If you think that a 7 feet long wild boar is terrifying then consider one with a body of 12 feet in length, 6 feet in height and weight of 1000 kg. The name of that pig was “Daeodon” that was the largest living pig n this earth 23 million years ago. It was probably the size of a rhino with powerful tusks and crushing jaws that had most vicious nature.
