Smallest Animals

Animals are fascinating creatures of nature that are in all sizes, shapes and lengths. Some of them can be small, like really small to be not even seen by naked human eye. Usually such kinds of animals are invertebrates (no spine). There are still some vertebrae animals that are usually small in size and we have prepared a list of these Smallest Animals.

Pygmy Rabbit:-

Pygmy Rabbit is crowned as smallest rabbit on earth. Their natural habitat is in North America. An average adult pygmy rabbit weighs about 400 grams with a  body length of 24 cm. Female pygmy rabbits are a little larger in size as compared to males. They usually live in deep burrows of sol inside an area filled with dense Sagebrush. This sagebrush allows for the easy escape from encroaching predators.

Pygmy Marmoset:-

Pygmy Marmoset or commonly known as Dwarf Monkey is the smallest species of monkeys. Its natural habitat is in the rain forests of Brazil, Ecuador, Columbia, Peru and Bolivia. This smallest monkey species have an average body length excluding the tail is about 14 o 16 cm. they weigh only about 15 grams at time of their birth.

Etruscan shrew:-

Etruscan Pygmy Shrew or also commonly known as White Toothed Pygmy Shrew. It has a body weight of only about 1.2 to 2.7 grams. This body weight alone makes its world’s smallest mammal. Its body length is however slightly long reaching up to 36 to 56 mm from head to tail. In relation to body weight to brain ratio, Etruscan shrew has the largest brain even when compared wit human.

Bee Hummingbird:-

Bee Hummingbird is known as the world’s smallest bird as well as the smallest warm blooded vertebrae. The average length of this bird is about 5.7 cm while its body weight can be 1.8 grams. Its nest is also 2 cm wide and 3 cm deep inside a tree trunk.

Paedocypris:-

Paedocypris is titles as world’s smallest fish species measuring at a length of 7.9mm on average. They are titles as the world’s smallest vertebrae. They are usually found in the waters of Indonesia, Sumatra Island’s Swamp Forests. The region experiences extreme drought condition but these vertebrae can survive it owing it to heir small body length.
