Human Society International (HSI); an independent no profit organization conducted their investigation about the illegal trade of wildlife animals as well as about the animals being conducted in the meat farms. Their investigation led to them discovering a so-called meat farm in South Korea where 55 dogs were being kept. After knowing about this, the organization left no effort spared to rescue these pooches from the terrible captivity conditions.
These dogs were living in cages placed in a room where there was almost complete darkness and no human, made contact to them whatsoever. They were waiting there, a cruel fate of them getting eaten. The organization made negations with the farm’s owner and finally all of these dogs were boarded on a charter plane headed toward the US.
In just one weekend, 44 of these rescued dogs landed in Pittsburgh where the Pittsburgh Aviation Animal Rescue Team (PAART) welcomed them. These dogs from there were transported to shelters in cities like New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Dallas in efforts to find them their forever new homes to live a loving, peaceful, and happy life.
The dog meat industry in Korea has been diminishing in the recent past few years. In the last couple of years, the majority of the dog meat farms have been closed down. HIS has played a big part in these efforts as they not only closed many inhumane dog meat farms but also saved more than 800 canines.
