Dogs Help Toddler Escape Room So She’d Give Them Snacks

0

Golden Retriever brothers Bleu and Colby, AKA Cheese Patrol, are no strangers to fame. A timelapse video of them as pups running for their dinner has over 13 million views on YouTube, and now they have gone viral again after being caught in the act performing a daring jailbreak – setting their partner-in-crime free so she can give them some snacks. Toddler Chloe is just 15 months old and she and the dogs are the very best of pals. The clever pups have quickly figured out that Chloe is much more generous with the snacks than her mom and dad, which is all the more reason to hang out with her as often as possible! So when breakfast time comes around, and the old routine of barking outside mom and dad’s door wasn’t bringing any joy, Cheese Patrol gets to work. Quietly opening the door to Chloe’s room, they sneak inside and wake her up with licks and gentle nudges. When she wakes up, the pups excitedly lead her in the direction of the snacks, and little Chloe is only too happy to oblige!

Chloe’s mom Nina was baffled to find her wandering free in the halls in the morning, as she isn’t big enough to open the bedroom door herself just yet. She decided to set up a video to find out what was going on and the footage of the jailbreak is too adorable for words. An authentic little crime syndicate! Their mornings of mischief are coming to an end however, as software company manager Chris and his wife Nina, who is a nurse, are now moving house and security is sure to be tighter from now on. Scroll down to check out the incriminating evidence for yourself.

A New Zealand based Pet Photographer named Chris has launched a series of photos of adorable dog couple weddings online. These photos are taken with so much emphasis on intricate details that it seems almost like real human love. The series has been titled by photographer as #DogIsLove.

According to Photographer himself, these images suggest marriage which, outside of the religious confines, I believe is the most epic way to proclaim your love for another person. These images are here to say that the color of your skin, your gender, your sexuality, religion, disabilities, age, what you wear, how you look, none of that matters. Love and kindness is what matters. They were created with love and I hope that you love looking at them. If you do, I’d love (there’s that word again) for you to share them and share this message: Love IS Love.

Comical, cuddly and capricious, Corgis have continued to rule the internet with their various hijinks. While they might seem ridiculous at times, did you know that Corgis were originally the pets of warriors? Yes that’s right, the first breed of these snuggly dogs were brought over to Cardiganshire, Wales by a warrior tribe of Celts around 1200 BCE. Now, over 3000 years later, Corgis seem less like warriors and more like comedians. Pretending to drive cars, sledding in the snow and dressing in ridiculous outfits, these rotund pups have brought many of us countless moments of internet joy. Beyond the web some Corgi enthusiasts love these animals so much they organized a Southern California annual Corgi meet-up. We have put together a list of some of our favorite Corgi moments.

Hero Dog Gets Bitten By a Venomous Rattlesnake after Jumping In

0

Every dog owner is familiar with those early morning walks with the beloved pet. So is Paula Godwin from Anthem, USA, who casually took a carefree walk with her two dogs – Todd and Cooper – last Friday, June 29th, but it ended not really as she expected.“It was a beautiful morning but as we were walking down the hill I literally almost stepped on a rattlesnake,” Godwin wrote in a Facebook post. “But my hero of a puppy Todd saved me.”

6-month-old Golden Retriever Todd proved that dog is a man’s best friend by jumping between his owner and a dangerous reptile, taking the bite that was addressed to his human. “He jumped right in front of my leg where I surely would have got bit. This is what a hero looks like,” says Paula.

Since the rattlesnake bit poor puppy right on the face and it quickly started to swell up, Paula Godwin rushed to the nearest veterinarian clinic without even thinking. The vet gave Todd a shot of anti-venom and kept him for the rest of the day just to see if everything’s okay.

Widely Believed Animal Facts That Are Totally Wrong

0

Many of our assumptions about animals aren’t true at all. Yet we keep reiterating faulty information from myths and early studies that have been debunked. Here are 10 commonly believed animal “facts” that aren’t factual at all.

Zebras

Zebras

https://wildmoz.com

Looking at the black-and-white stripes of zebras, it’s hard to believe that they have something to do with camouflage. Through research, scientists have debunked the camouflage theory, although we still don’t know why the stripes exist.

Piranhas

Piranhas

https://www.smithsonianmag.com

The mere thought of entering a piranha-infested body of water is believed to be a direct death sentence, a horror to which entire movies have been dedicated. Although it is true that they have scary teeth and barbarically strip their prey’s skin to feed, the belief that they attack live animals, even humans, is largely a myth. There are no known instances of a piranha swarm intentionally attacking or killing a human being. Despite what movies depict, piranhas don’t kill mammals for food because their usual dietary preference consists of dead or decomposing carcasses. People in the Amazon actually swim in piranha-infested rivers all the time.

Komodo Dragons

Komodo Dragons

https://www.mnn.com

While scary enough on the basis of their looks, Komodo dragons also kill in a distinctly horrifying way. They bite their prey, transmit the deadly bacteria from their mouths, and just let the infection do its job. Or do they? Komodo dragons don’t actually have an army of dangerous bacteria to do their killing for them. Instead, they kill using the traditional method of injecting their prey with venom. Their venom glands were discovered by a researcher from the University of Queensland in 2009.

Penguins

Penguins

https://defenders.org

Due to our lack of any real-world interaction with penguins, we see them as adorable creatures that live an equally adorable life in some of the harshest conditions on the planet. Sadly, we have grossly misunderstood these creatures for a long time. For example, male Adelie penguins in Antarctica regularly engage in necrophilia and rape. It was first documented by a British scientist studying their behavior in Antarctica on a 1910–1913 expedition. Female emperor penguins have been found to kidnap other penguins’ chicks to make up for their own lack of fertility. If opposed, they resort to outright violent means.

Pigs

Pigs

https://www.livekindly.co

There’s a saying “sweat like a pig” to refer to excessive sweating. However, pigs don’t have working sweat glands. That’s why they chill in the mud to cool down. Contrary to popular belief, pigs are fairly clean animals. Our misconception about their cleanliness occurs because we see most pigs on farms where they are forced to live in the middle of their feces and urine. In the wild, pigs refuse to pass waste around the area in which they live. Some wild boars even go as far as washing their food before eating, something most of us don’t even do.

Earwigs

Earwigs

https://www.neatorama.com

As this creature’s name has “ear” in it, many people believe that earwigs crawl inside human ears to lay eggs. In reality, there are no known cases of an earwig hanging around a human ear. Their wings don’t help them to fly well, and human ears can often be difficult to reach without wings. Some scientists have suggested that the myth is due to the shape of the earwigs’ hind wings, which resemble that of a human ear when folded in a specific manner.

Praying Mantises

Praying Mantises

http://www.abc.net.au

As far as sexual habits go, there’s probably no other creature as repulsive as the praying mantis. the mating ritual of a praying mantis isn’t complete until the female devours the head of the male with which she’s mating. But when biologists tested that popular belief, they found that it largely wasn’t true. The praying mantises that had eaten the heads of their mates had done so in captivity. However, when scientists created conditions that were similar to how praying mantises naturally mate, they got a different result. Out of 69 experiments, only one female praying mantis ate the male after intercourse.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches

http://www.latimes.com

The belief that cockroaches are the only creatures able to survive a nuclear annihilation of the world has been floating around the Internet and movie dialogue for years. While it is true that cockroaches have a higher resistance to radiation and extinction than other creatures, more recent studies have indicated that they would be the first bugs to be wiped out when big bombs hit the ground. As it turns out, flour beetles were the creatures most likely to survive.

Dogs

Dogs

https://metro.co.uk

When it comes to training dogs, most of us have heard about the alpha dog technique. Assert your dominance and let the pooch know who’s boss because that’s how it works in the wild. This technique is based on a belief that every wolf pack has an alpha wolf, a dominant leader that calls the shots. As you may have guessed, it’s a cruel way to train your pet. But it also illustrates a fundamental misunderstanding of how wolf packs actually work. The alpha male theory is based on early research about pack behavior in unnatural conditions. Wolf packs don’t have a dictatorial male leader because their social structure works more like a biological family than like North Korea. Even with wild dogs—which some may argue are different animals than wolves—research has shown that pack leaders are more experienced elders rather than a static alpha male.

Sloths

Sloths

https://www.worldwildlife.org

In many cultures throughout the world, sloths are synonymous with laziness. “Sleep like a sloth” is a simile that’s even mentioned in the seven deadly sins. This belief was confirmed when researchers found that these animals sleep about 16 hours per day. When another research team studied three-toed sloths in their natural environment, they discovered that sloths actually slept for 9.5 hours a day. Sloths are still excruciatingly slow when moving from one place to another, but speed has nothing to do with laziness.

Amazing Things Animals Can Do With Their Heads

0

Some animals can do amazing things with their heads and faces. Many such feats have only been recently documented by science.

Limpets Use Their Tongues Like A Jackhammer

Jackhammer

http://www.engineersjournal.ie

Limpets are small, sturdy aquatic snails. Like more commonly known animals, the limpet has the gastropod equivalent of a tongue—a radula. A limpet’s radula is forested with spiky projections for scraping algae. The appendage also doubles as jackhammer. It’s used to rasp cozy alcoves into rocky surfaces for the limpet to inhabit. It helps that limpet teeth are nearly indestructible and have recently been labeled as the strongest biological material known to man. When researchers atomically deconstructed the adamantium-like teeth in the lab, they found them studded with goethite nanofibers, giving them a consistency tougher than Kevlar. This unmatched tensile strength allows the limpet to constantly chew rocks without any damage to its teeth.

Moles Have Stereoscopic Smelling

Stereoscopic

https://www.popsci.com

A mole’s nose is the only body part that it isn’t ashamed of. In spite of overwhelming blindness and inadequate tactile sensitivity, common moles excel at locating food sources. Trained rats have previously been coerced into stereo smelling to detect air currents, but such a strange ability had never been observed in the natural world. It’s a novel find, implying that other champion sniffers (like dogs) may be benefiting from the same technique.

Vibrating Mosquito Probosces Inspire New Types Of Painless Needles

The mosquito proboscis, nature’s most annoying appendage, has finally become useful by inspiring a new breed of painless hypodermic needles.

The King Of Saxony Bird-Of-Paradise Is The King Of Eyebrows

Bird-Of-Paradise

http://charismaticplanet.com

The oddly named King of Saxony bird-of-paradise is the owner of the animal kingdom’s most glorious eyebrows. These erectile appendages, called wires, don’t really do anything other than look good and have only evolved to their current state because females consistently mate with males that have the beefiest brows. During their intricate mating procedures, Kings also employ aggressive head-ruffling, haphazard wire-waving, and a weird pumping motion most accurately described as twerking.

Pink Underwing Moth Young Wear A Literal Skullcap

Pink Underwing

https://plus.google.com

A pink underwing moth’s smooth blandness belies the deeply disturbing foulness of its adolescence. The horrible larva starts out hideous enough and then develops into a repulsive, skull-faced demon. Circular spots mimic the appearance of large, ever-seeing eyes, while a row of white splotches below gives the fearsome appearance of teeth. Its actual head is slightly well-guarded, being curled up within its poo-colored mass of flesh. However, it’s all a bluff. Even though the larva is decked out in scary face paint, it’s entirely harmless and is actually a strict herbivore. The animal itself is completely defenseless.

The Pinocchio Lizard

Pinocchio Lizard

https://blog.nationalgeographic.org

The Anolis proboscis, or Pinocchio lizard, gave researchers a nice surprise when it was unexpectedly found in an Ecuadorian cloud forest. Having feared it to be extinct, ecological bounty hunters from Tropical Herping; searched for three years before serendipitously finding one asleep on a branch. It was actually still quite a feat, since searches were carried out by night; the lizard is far too good at camouflaging itself during daylight. It also lives very high off the ground in the most inaccessible strata of trees. The distinctive horn is possessed only by males, who are known to articulate their enlarged stumps quite suggestively at females. Only time will reveal the evolutionary purpose of the horn, a rare feature found on only two other types of South American lizard.

Monkeys Use Faces Like Name Tags

Monkeys

http://listverse.com

Monkeys boast the most colorful faces in the mammal kingdom, and they’re not just for show. Like humans, they discern friend or foe by facial features, which have evolved to be especially distinctive under the selective pressures of keeping a tight-knit community. Researchers liken the phenomenon to a primitive, simian Facebook. The increasingly intricate markings are used as biological name tags to differentiate family members from other closely related individuals. An Old World monkey’s social status is reliably predicted by its face.

Venomous Frogs

Venomous Frogs

https://www.newscientist.com

The hateful Greening’s frog does head butting to its enemies to turn them into submission like a drunken soccer hooligan. This odd and novel form of envenomation is possible thanks to numerous venom-dispensing barbs on the frog’s skull. The Brunos’ casque-head frog also possesses this ability, making these feisty specimens the only two venomous frogs ever documented. A single gram of Brunos’ casque-headed frog juice, on the other hand, could lay down 300 men.

Amazing Displays of Animal Empathy

0

There are proven records of animals showing empathy. Several, in fact. Sometimes, animals take care of each other. Sometimes, they show outpourings of grief, and sometimes, they even take care of us. However they show it, though, there are several times when animals have shown empathy—and some of them are in ways that are so much like humans that they will shock you.

A Chimpanzee Comforted Her Caretaker after A Miscarriage

Miscarriage

http://www.lifebuzz.com

Central Washington University once took in a chimpanzee named Washoe. They taught Washoe sign language and tried to raise her as much as possible like a human being. The experiment was a rousing success. Washoe was able to communicate and even form full, grammatically correct sentences. One of Washoe’s caretakers, a woman named Kat, was pregnant and miscarried. She took a few weeks off of work. Washoe, took this as a personal offense and refused to look at Kat when she returned. To make Washoe happy, Kat signed that she was sorry and then explained, “My baby died.” According to the people present, Washoe just stared at her in silence for a long while. Then the chimpanzee signed the word “cry” and ran her finger down Kat’s cheek, mimicking a tear. Washoe stopped her, signing, “Please, person—hug?”

Elephants Gathered To Mourn A Conservationist’s Death

Elephants

http://www.cbc.ca

Conservationist Lawrence Anthony developed a reputation as “the elephant whisperer.” He had the ability to calm down African elephants. Anthony died of a heart attack. He had not been in the reserve or seen the elephants for 1.5 years when it happened. The elephants, somehow sensing that Anthony had passed, left the reserve and traveled for 12 hours to his home to pay their respects. Just as an elephant will mourn the dead of its own species, they came out for Anthony. In total, two full herds of elephants came in a procession to his home, with each one coming separately.

Dogs Instinctively Comfort Crying Humans

Dogs

http://listverse.com

An animal behavior study was recently conducted to see how dogs would react to emotional displays. Each dog was put in a room with its owner and a stranger. Naturally, the dog would gravitate toward the owner at first. When a stranger pretended to cry, though, the dogs really reacted. When the dogs thought that the stranger was upset, they would leave their owners, nuzzle the crying stranger, and lick his face.

Chimpanzee Mother And Sister Took Care Of A Baby With Down’s Syndrome

Chimpanzee

https://metro.co.uk

Japanese researchers working in Tanzania spotted something that they’d never seen before. A chimpanzee was taking care of a baby chimp which they described as suffering from “symptoms resembling Down’s syndrome.” The baby held its mouth open like a fish, could barely support itself, and seemed to suffer from a mental handicap. The mother took care of her anyway. Even more interestingly, the chimp’s sister helped with the baby’s care when the mother needed to eat. When the older sister became pregnant herself and couldn’t help anymore, the handicapped baby died.

Rats Protect Each Other And Share Food

Rats

https://content.propertynews.com

A group of scientists set up some lab rats in an experiment. If a rat pulled a lever, two things would happen: The rat would be rewarded with chocolate, but another rat would be drowned. The rewarded rat had to watch the water level rise on another rat in another cage and deal with a tough choice: Is it worth drowning a stranger if you get a Hershey’s bar out of the deal? The answer was no. Most of the rats wouldn’t pull the lever if they knew that it would cause another rat to suffer.

A Pride Of Lions Saved A Girl In Ethiopia

Lions

https://www.hoaxorfact.com

In 2005, a 12-year-old girl near Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, was dragged out into the wild and beaten bloody by seven men. When the girl started crying, a nearby pride of lions heard her and rushed to her rescue. The animals pounced on the men and chased them away, saving her before she could be raped and forced into a life of servitude. If they’d just attacked the men, it could easily have just been a random lion attack. But they stayed with the girl. The lions waited with the bruised child for about 12 hours—protecting her in case the men came back—until her family found her.

Koko Cried For Her Pet Cat

Koko Koko cry

https://www.pinterest.co.uk

Koko is a smart gorilla. Her IQ has been listed as somewhere between 70 and 95, which means that she’s probably smarter than a few human beings you know. She has a vocabulary of about 2,000 sign language words and has been able to communicate with researchers in an incredibly humanlike way. Koko’s favorite stories were about cats, they decided to get her a pet kitten. Koko named the tailless cat “All Ball” and adored it. One day, however, All Ball sneaked out of the compound and onto the highway, where she was hit by a car. When the researchers told Koko, she reportedly refused to respond in any way for a full 10 minutes. Then the gorilla started openly weeping or, more accurately, whimpering—which is the gorilla’s way of crying. Koko finally eulogized her pet, signing the words, “Sleep, cat.”

Prairie Voles Console One Another When They Are Stressed

Prairie Voles

http://mentalfloss.com

Prairie voles are sweethearts that mate for life. Some scientists did a study in which they made a control group of voles watch while an experimental group of voles was shocked with electricity. When the two groups were allowed to reunite, the researchers found that the voles that hadn’t been shocked would console the hurt ones by licking them. The voles only seemed to console other voles that they knew, and they definitely licked more when they knew one had been hurt. All of which told the researchers that this wasn’t just grooming. This was taking care of them.

Magpies Brought Grass For A Dead Friend

Magpies

https://www.youtube.com

Dr. Marc Bekoff of the University of Colorado, while riding his bicycle around Boulder, Colorado, he saw a dead magpie lying on the road who had clearly been hit by a car. Five other magpies were gathered around it, looking at it. One magpie flew off, took some grass, and laid it down by the dead body as if it were an offering. Then another flew away and did the same, taking some grass and putting it down by its side. The five magpies stood in silence for a few moments and then flew away one by one.

Killer Animals That Commit Infanticide

0

In an act that seems savage, cold, and downright heartless, helpless young are occasionally killed and even eaten by the very animals that either brought them into the world or helped to nurture them from a very young age. In the eyes of mankind, infanticide is undoubtedly heartbreaking.

Bottlenose Dolphins

Bottlenose Dolphins

https://seaworld.org

In a rare case of brutality, a group of bottlenose dolphins were observed attempting to kill a newborn pup in August 2013.researchers captured the live birth of the bottlenose dolphin in the wild near the coast of Georgia. Startlingly, not more than two minutes after the pup entered the world; two male dolphins began trying to sink the baby and continued to do so for 30 minutes. Some theories attempting to explain this harsh behavior include territorial clashes, food disputes, and attempts to force mating with the female once the calf is dead.

Black Guillemots

Black Guillemots

http://www.npolar.no

Native to the northern seas of the world, the black-and-white guillemot is a relatively small seabird that usually restricts its nesting to rocky shores. The bird, although docile in appearance, has no issue with attacking and killing chicks of its own kind. After studying a colony in Scotland in 2007, it was revealed that chicks were either being pecked to death or simply thrown from the cliffs. About two-thirds of the deaths were caused by adults that did not parent the dead young.

Black-Tailed Prairie Dogs

Prairie Dogs

http://www.animalspot.net

Prairie dogs are the busy-bodied rodents of the prairie lands, ranging from Texas all the way up to Canada. The infant mortality rate is very high among the black-tailed prairie dogs, and it’s not due to predation; the leading cause of death is infanticide. The usual culprits are female prairie dogs, who attack the offspring of close relatives but not their own children. The females are typically lactating when they commit infanticide, leading to speculation that they turn to cannibalism for nutritional purposes during the stressful period of feeding their own young. Male prairie dogs have also been known to commit infanticide. Oddly, they often attack the pups of females they have previously mated with.

In the Meercat hierarchy, the alpha male and female rule with an iron fist. If inferior females give birth to young, the alpha females viciously eliminate them. Having no remorse whatsoever, the alpha females then force the grieving mothers to decide to either stay and become wet nurses for the alpha’s young or live in exile. Choosing to stay has its price though, as wet nurses lose a significant amount of weight. Scientists believe that alpha females who kill the young of other mothers are attempting to reduce competition for the care of their own young. Although the alpha’s methods are extreme, they are certainly effective.

Chacma baboons have one of the more complicated social structures in the world of primates. Although familial and relationship ties are encouraged within the chacma community, alpha males occasionally take it upon themselves to murder offspring of a female that do not belong to them, because they want to father their own with that particular female. By killing the baby and halting the lactation of the female, the male makes the female sexually available once again.

Hanuman Langurs

The usefulness of the South Asian Hanuman langur is twofold. Firstly, the primates are used as a form of “pest” control and can be trained to keep unwanted rhesus monkeys at bay, as was seen at the Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi in 2010. It may come as a surprise, then, that the “holy” gray langurs are not as peaceful as they appear to be. In the wild, one dominant male is in charge of a troop where the females are fiercely defended by him. If a challenger tries to topple the alpha’s regime and succeeds, the new alpha usually decides to kill any preexisting infants to make way for his own.

Chimpanzees

Some of the more disturbing reports of infanticide among primates originate from chimpanzees in the wild. Chimpanzees live in communities where males are the dominant sex. In some cases, gangs of males from one group strike out at an opposing group of males in another community with fierce aggression, resulting in the deaths of infants left unprotected. What’s even more alarming is that the mothers of the dead infants sometimes associate with and even join the communities of the perpetrators.

Lions

African lions are powerful, majestic, and are becoming ever more endangered as lion populations across the board are declining. Lions battle with loss of prey and habitat, humans who vengefully slay them for killing livestock, and—unfortunately—their own kind. Lionesses are known for being the hunters in a pride. But when an opposing rogue male makes his move, it is the cubs that become the hunted. Lions do this so as not to waste energy and time on cubs that are not their kin. Once the cubs are dead, the males can mate with the females because the females stop nursing.

Bears

An alarming and upsetting incident that took place at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, DC, a female sloth bear was in the process of birthing her cubs. Not long after the first cub was born, the mother ate the infant while she was still in labor. She went on to birth the other two cubs and lived normally with them for a week. Still recovering from the shock of the infanticide, zookeepers were astonished when the mother sloth bear ate yet another one of her cubs and completely abandoned the third.

Sea Otters

Sea otters, the lovable marine mammals have a dark side—a side that many have probably never seen or heard of. There have been confirmed reports of adult otters mounting, forcibly mating with, and even drowning and killing juvenile seals. Yes, seals. The cringeworthy observation was noted by researchers off the coast of California between 2000 and 2002, where 15 out of 19 incidents resulted in death. Even after the doomed seal pups were killed, the otters took the bodies captive and continued to mate with the corpses. Plain old sexual frustration, scientists say. Because female otter populations are declining in the area, male otters are becoming desperate and, unfortunately, taking their aggression out on unsuspecting juvenile pups.

Dangerous Animals That Escaped Captivity

Dangerous Animals That Escaped Captivity

Animals successfully get out of zoos, shelters, and even pet shops more frequently than one may think. Mistakes made by staff are the leading cause of the incidents. But there have also been cases of people purposely aiding escapes as well as some rare, ingenious breakout tactics devised by the animals themselves.

Although the majority of animal breakouts involve small and harmless creatures, here is a list of the more dangerous beasts that have escaped captivity.

Eagle

In 1965, a golden eagle named Goldie escaped from the Regent’s Park Zoo in London. After five years of living at the zoo, Goldie escaped while the cage was being cleaned. The eagle became a national sensation during its 12 days of free reign. Hundreds of calls and letters were sent to the zoo with capture advice. A crowd of roughly 1,000 people gathered to watch the eagle’s keepers, police, firefighters, and even a BBC reporter attempt to catch the bird. The navy was also consulted about supplies, including a net and line-firing rifles. Goldie was caught by the deputy head keeper, who lured the eagle with a dead rabbit tied to a rope. He quietly walked up to the bird and caught it with his bare hands. Goldie was declared unhurt and returned to the London zoo, where visitor numbers doubled during the following days.

In May 2018, a 363-kilogram (800 lb) takin rammed its way out of a Rhode Island zoo. The beast ran around for an hour before it was captured and sedated. Two employees sustained minor injuries, which were treated on the scene.

The takin escaped early in the morning before the zoo opened for visitors. A veterinary team approaching to carry out a routine hoof procedure appeared to have caused the incident. The animal charged at reinforced doors multiple times until it successfully broke out of its enclosure and roamed the facility’s grounds.

An African rock python escaped from a pet shop in Canada in 2013.The 4.3-meter (14 ft) snake strangled two young brothers, aged five and seven, by slithering into their room through a ventilation system. The children were having a sleepover at their friend’s flat, which was located above a Reptile Ocean shop in Campbellton, New Brunswick. Mr. Savoie, their friend’s father and the owner of the shop, discovered their bodies the following morning. His own son had slept in a different room and was unharmed. Savoie was shocked and said that he thought of the kids as his own.

At the beginning of 2017, no fewer than 10 crocodiles found their way out of a zoo after Southern Thailand was hit by a flood. Some of the crocodiles measured up to 5 meters (16.4 ft) long. Reports noted that all of the deer and rare bird species had also escaped. Attempts at locating the reptiles were unsuccessful due to the changing water level.

In January 2018, a Berkshire wolf called Torak fled from the Wolf Conservation Trust’s site after its enclosure was damaged by strong winds. However, the sanctuary has stated that someone may have left the gate open deliberately.

Torak was recaptured six hours later. Police said that the wolf had traveled roughly 13 kilometers (8 mi) before it was caught near a motorway. An expert in capturing animals who was tracking Torak noted that the police would have shot the wolf if it had run onto the motorway.

Gorilla

A silverback gorilla named Kumbuka escaped through an open cage door at the London Zoo in 2016. Despite the description of Kumbuka as a “gentle giant,” visitors were ordered to take cover in buildings when the 184-kilogram (406 lb) ape escaped. Armed police got involved in finding and tranquilizing the gorilla. Kumbuka was tranquilized and returned to the enclosure within half an hour. The only damage caused by the gorilla was the loss of 5 liters (1.3 gal) of undiluted blackcurrant squash, which Kumbuka drank in the staff-only service corridor.

In Baraboo, Wisconsin, in summer 2017, Kelly, the 3,810-kilogram (8,400 lb) Asian elephant, escaped from the circus and went to munch on some nearby plants. Her stroll down the block was followed by shocked neighborhood screams.

Turns out that Kelly’s escape was assisted by Isla, another elephant. Isla is intrigued by anything shiny, including the nuts and bolts which held together their enclosure. The elephant released several bolts secured to a latch hinge, giving Kelly a chance to escape.

All it took to get the elephant back to the enclosure was Kelly’s trainer calling her name.

Bear

A bear named Taps escaped from a zoo in Osnabrueck, Germany, in 2017. The bear was quickly shot dead by zoo personnel before it could cause any harm. Police officers rushed to the zoo and assisted in temporarily evacuating the area as well as investigating the animal’s escape. Taps was a cappuccino bear that had a brown bear and a polar bear as parents. The animal escaped through a hole in its cage.

Tiger

During summer 2015, a flood freed hundreds of wild animals from a zoo in Tbilisi, Georgia. Among those animals was a tiger, which killed a man in a warehouse before being taken out by police. The 43-year-old man was attacked in the throat and died before reaching the hospital.

Lion

A 65-year-old man turned his back on the king of the jungle while cleaning its cage in a Chinese zoo in 2015. The lion did not miss the chance to take a bite out of the man’s shoulder and neck. He later died from the injuries. After its escape, the lion roamed around the park for over an hour while local officers and special forces were mobilized. The lion was shot dead by police to ensure the safety of visitors. Later that afternoon, the park reopened for business.
