This page says how Luve Ur Pet is put together, where the facts come from, and what to do if you think we have got something wrong.
Who publishes this site
Luve Ur Pet is an independent pet care publisher. It is not a veterinary practice, and nobody here is a veterinary surgeon. Everything on this site is general information for owners living with cats and dogs. It does not replace a consultation with your own vet, who can examine your animal and knows its history.
Where the facts come from
On anything that affects an animal’s health we work from veterinary sources rather than from other blogs. The ones that come up most often here are the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, the Pet Poison Helpline, the Merck Veterinary Manual, Cornell’s feline health material, the Companion Animal Parasite Council and the FDA, along with published veterinary research.
We are working towards naming the source in the text wherever an article turns on a specific figure, a dose or a risk. The newer guides do that. The older ones do not all do it yet. If you are reading one that does not, ask us and we will either show you the source or change the line.
Where the evidence is not settled, we say so rather than choosing the tidier answer. The grapes guide is the clearest example: nobody could say why grapes harm dogs until 2021, tartaric acid is the likely cause rather than the proven one, and the page says exactly that.
When to stop reading and call a vet
No article is an emergency service. Contact your vet or an out of hours clinic straight away, and do not wait to finish reading, if your animal has eaten something toxic, is straining to pass urine and producing little or nothing, is vomiting repeatedly, is struggling to breathe, has collapsed, has had a seizure, or has a hard swollen abdomen.
Dates on articles
Each article shows the date it was last updated rather than the date it first appeared, because on pet health the current version is the only one that matters. The first publication date is still there in the page source, in the article data.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, tell us and we will change it. Message us on Facebook or Instagram, where we are Luve Ur Pet, or on X, where we are @luveurpet. Send the page and what is wrong with it, and a source if you have one.
We correct the page itself rather than quietly removing it, and the updated date on the article changes so you can see that it happened.
