Dogs are not only the greatest pet who can be our best friends in our time of need, but they can also be great rescuers when the time comes.
This point has been proved by a heroic German Shepherd dog named Duke. Duke almost sacrificed himself in order to defend the life of his owner from an armed robber.
When Duke’s owner, a 40 years old man named Gino Wensel from South Africa, took him for a walk, he noticed a suspicious man with a knife following him. The man in question approached Gino with a knife in hand. Even before Gino had time to react for this situation, Duke sprang into action.
In order to protect his owner from what was a possible robbery attempt with malicious intent, Duke started to aggressively growl at the robber.
The heartless man reacted back with a cruel act as he stabbed the knife he was carrying into the dog’s head. Duke, who still maintained the consciousness, used all of his remaining strength to scare off this cruel robber. Afterward, when the robber scrammed from the place of incident, Duke collapsed on the ground.
Fortunately for both Duke and Gino, Duke was still alive. His heartbroken owner did not waste any more time and carried Duke to a nearby Vet clinic.
Gino took Duke to the Animal Welfare Society of South Africa, which will turn 90 years since its founding, on March 9th, 2019. The nurse of the foundation told media, “Duke was brought to our clinic in a very terrible state and our medical staff reacted very fast in order to save Duke’s life. We will perhaps never know as to what was going through the robber’s mind as he did this heartless thing to poor Duke. At that point, our top priority was to save Duke’s life. An X-Ray was taken in order to see the extent of damage the knife had caused to Duke. The X-Ray only showed that the vet had to react fast if they wanted to save Duke’s life.”
Nurse further told media, “Seconds seemed to turn into hours as Duke was lapsing in and out of consciousness. Our vets concluded that in order to save Duke’s life, they must save him by extracting the knife stuck in Duke’s head as soon as possible.”
Luckily, the vets were able to successful remove the knife from Duke’s head and the whole staff was overwhelmed with immense relief.
The heroic Duke has now been reunited with his owner and is being apprised all over the internet for his bravery and loyalty.
