The Vancouver Police Canine Unit and their loyal good dogs are getting together for the sake of doing a photoshoot and it is for a good cause.
Social Media Liaison officer for the Vancouver Police Department, Anne-Marie Clark told media that, “The calendar project was started by the retired Vancouver Police Sergeant Mike Anfield to honor his wife back in 2009. The name of his wife was VPD Constable Candy Anfield who passed away after her gruesome battle with breast cancer back in 2004. Now the proceeds from the sales of all these calendars go to the charity fund of the B.C. Cancer Foundation and B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation.”
Anne-Marie Clark also told media that, “The police dogs that take part in this photoshoot are all good boys who listen to their handlers. You can also see their personalities in these pictures. The coolest dog of the force is PSD Brando who looks badass with his sunglasses pose. As for the PSD Bailey he likes to have quick breaks at the local coffee shop while PSD Jack is one of the determinant cop dogs on the force who take his job of getting to the truth very seriously.”
The VPCD currently houses 15 dog teams and each team is comprised of one police service dog and their human handler.
Anne-Marie Clark ended the conversation with the media by saying, “these police dogs are very important to our police department because they have been trained in a variety of disciplines like tracking, criminal apprehension, narcotics, firearms, and explosive detection”. In the city of Vancouver, the canine unit almost responds to 10000 calls each year. Sometimes the Lower Mainland Police agencies also request the services of these dogs and their handlers”.
The charity calendar costs 15 dollars apiece and can be ordered from anywhere in the world.
